How to Increase Browsing and Download Speed in Windows Vista
As many of you have noticed, browsing and download speed web are quite slow with Windows Vista. Today’s tip perhaps will help you to increase the browsing and download speed in Windows Vista.
There are two ways you can do to increase your internet speed.
If you want to try this out, follow the steps below for the first method:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click on Tools and then select Internet Options.
3. Click on Advanced tab.
4. From the settings, scroll all the way to the bottom.
5. Check the box of Use SSL 2.0 (Secure Sockets Layer) and uncheck the box of Use TLS 1.0 (Transport Layer Security).
Continue with following steps for the second method (This method might not work well):
By default, the TCP autotuning is enabled in Windows Vista. Many websites do not respond well with this feature. So these sites are loaded slowly.
To disable TCP autotuning feature,
1. Firstly open the Run option from the Start menu.
2. Type cmd in the box of Run option.
3. A command prompt will show up, type netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel= disabled in it and then hit enter.
4. The TCP autotuning should be disabled now. Close the command prompt and restart your computer.
To restore or re-enable the TCP autotuning feature,
1. Type cmd to the Run option and then type netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel= normal in the command prompt. Press enter, close it and then restart your computer.
The TCP autotuning should be enabled now.

but it wasn’t disabled and a message was apppared
set global command was failed on IPv4 the requested operation required elevation. pls help Deepak

You need to go to C:\windows\system32 and rightclick and open cmd.exe with run as administrator. Then it will work for you.
Applied both fixes, and still peaking at 110-120Kbps download rate for files and torrents. Upload rate is stuck at about 10-20kbps, which is also totally unacceptable. Base network connection is a 20Mbps, cable connection into a Wireless N, Linksys router. All network cards are at least G+ and N. All systems are running Norton 360 3.0.
There are the following: iPhone, Windows XP Home, and Windows Vista Home Premium, in use on the network connection in question.
Speed tests from iPhone generate – ~900KBps
Speed tests from Win XP generate – ~750D/300U
Speed tests from Vista H.P generate – 950KB D / 450KB U
Yeah, that is using the same testing server, and everything. I get those results on my Vista system, but when I go to download a file or host a torrent, KA BLAM! shite download. Does anyone have suggestions. I am a hoping to find an answer as it really bites to only have my tests go fast.

For your info, the tips I suggested here in this post might have a slight improvement and perhaps could fix something for some users.
As in your case, perhaps there are other problems that we can’t see through. You might have to contact your ISP and tell them your problem.

This is prefect. The speed increase much more faster than before but will this effect our computer’s health or internet security ? (Meaning : is it safe to do this )
im IE options are already set in the way u told above but still i have a very bad download speed…I use LAN with 14Mbps in my collage ….could u please help me out
