no-microsoft-xbox-blu-rayAfter the Blu-ray vs HD DVD format war came to a crashing end last week with the blu-ray format being declared the winner, there are rumours circulated concerning a possible integration of Blu-ray in the Xbox 360. The rumours started because many thought that Sony and Microsoft were already negotiating about this.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for the XBox 360 squashed these rumors by stating that Microsoft isn’t in talks with Sony, nor does it plan to integrate Blu-ray into the console.

This is quite dissapointing.smiley

From what Greenberg has said, it seems like Xbox360 aren’t going to join hands with blu-ray anytime soon. Greenberg then argue that the Xbox360 already offers HD movie and TV downloads, plus a heady slate of games and claimed that it’s more than enough for consumers of Xbox360.

“People bought their Xbox 360s this holiday for Halo 3 and Bioshock and Mass Effect and Guitar Hero and Rock Band. They weren’t buying an Xbox to watch 300,” Greenberg commented in interview an with Next-Gen. “And we don’t know what will happen to Blu-ray. Is it the next DVD, or the next UMD? Your guess is as good as ours.”

My Views:
I still think that they are making an stupid move if they don’t offer any kind of blu-ray drive option for Xbox 360 owners. I’ve read many blogs’ comments and forums’ topics said that they are considering buying a PS3 just for Blu-ray. This is exactly the situation Microsoft does not want. The quote below is a perfect expression of poeple’s thoughts that catch my attention.

They’ve already got the software superiority, but now they have a huge chink in their armor. If they had a Blu-ray drive, people would be perfectly satisfied with the complete package of the Xbox360, barring any PS3 exclusives of course. As it stands now, that same gamer may pick up a PS3 to compliment their Xbox360, and who knows they might find more games they liked for it, or decide to buy a cross platform title that reviews say performs a bit better on the PS3. Once Microsoft lets Sony jam its foot in the door, it can’t get it back out. And heaven forbid this hypothetical person’s 360 go to the big red ring in the sky. You can bet they aren’t going to forget which system continued to work perfectly and which went on a month long vacation for surgery.
